Head office team members raise over £1,000 for Children with Cancer

Team members Nicola Varney and Emma Woolford ran the Reading half marathon on Sunday to raise money for Children with cancer. Here is their story by Nicola Varney -

On the 22nd March 2015 myself (Nikki Varney) & Emma Woolford, both Magal employees,  Embarked on the Reading ½ marathon, we had trained hard but the thought of completing 13.1 miles seemed daunting to say the least, we set off 29 minutes after the elite runners had gone (they were half way round before we began).  We decided to run the first 5k slowly so we could keep running once we had reached the top of the dreaded Hartland Hill, as Emma galloped (she runs like a pony) her way up it, and I huffed and puffed, we made it to the top without needing oxygen, The crowds where fantastic cheering and high fiving, handing out Haribos and jelly babies, Emma got bored at about mile 4 and galloped away from me, It was fantastic to see so many people we knew out supporting us, or just taking pictures that they could later post on facebook!!!!, Emma managed to run the whole 13.1  miles, I had to stop at the nags head and decide if a free ½ lager was a good idea, (decided it wasn’t), Emma finished in 2 hours and 35 minutes and I finished in 2 hours and 45 Minutes. Having had a personal experience of a child with cancer we decided to raise money for children with cancer uk, a fabulous charity which researches childhood cancers as well as helping families in their hour of need.  We managed to raise - due to our fabulous families, friends, work colleagues & even people we didn’t know - a fantastic £1,082.03 but there is still time to sponsor us!!
